Jesus Calling Devotional App Reviews

WHY only 300 Characters???

Why is the app limited to copying ONLY 300 characters? After the fiasco of the last update, I now copy and paste my journaling to Google Docs for fear of losing it again. And now I cant do that since this update. Boo!!!!

Lack of competence

Its sad that the development team is not up the the quality of the author. Someone made a mistake choosing this developer. Reviews contain the blueprint for what needs to happen. Too bad the team is not functional enough to execute.

300 characters... Really?

So sad that we are now limited to 300 characters to share encouragement with family and friends to brighten their day or let them know Jesus loves them and is calling them to know Him.

Getting better---but....

MUCH better than recent version, still light years behind the original. PLEASE ask your "developers" (who I would have fired months ago!) to get with it and match the APP technology to ALL mainstream "tablets". This is easily done by any competent "developer" as is obvious from the many many APPs that enable high text content to conform to the users needs. As to sharing---sharing full text would probably increase sales. Your APP is currently one of the most expensive on line. Sharing a bit more would be a good thing ---only a few would actually attempt to cheat you out of your fees by sharing each and every day❗️ With caution but sincerity I repeat "fire your developers" any group that did not test for iPad fonts scrolling Etc or cant fix those basics need to be working in another arena. THANKS FOR LISTENING J

Terrible update!

Update 4/4/16: The update is better, but still hasnt made me look forward to reading it due to the wide margins on the iPad. Also, on the iPhone, I am unable to use the reminder feature. Although I am able to set the time, I cannot slide the switch to set the reminder. Previous update: Not only are all of the other things written by others true, but the alert is awful too. It used to show up on my mobile devices as "Jesus Calling" when my morning alert appeared. Now it says in all caps "REMINDERBODY". I dont even understand why it says that, but it instantly angers me instead of inviting me to read more. Also, the icon contains the red alert #1 on it even after I have read it. It never goes away. Please fix this app! Ive loved it for years, and have even gifted it to others. Now it just irritates me.

Ive sat quietly on the sideline

Software developers have to change things or they would not have a job. Does that justify what they did? No, but that is their motive. I use to use the copy feature to send the daily devotional to a friend with whatever comments that I was moved to write and he would do the same. We would not read each others until ours was written. It was not only amazing, but fun. We could even look back to the same date a year earlier and see how our interpretation had changed. All of that including the historical value was destroyed. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL is that we both had paid for app versions. As well as purchasing literally 100s of copies of the written version to hand out to people whose paths we crossed, we would eventually encourage them to purchase the electronic version. We still use the printed version as a ministry. However, I can not encourage the purchase of the current electronic version. The 300 character limitation is worse than having the feature turned off. If the publishers motivation is purely monetary, I would gladly pay $20 for the old version again. Yes, that would be charging twice for something I had already paid for, but this current version is worthless. What we received with the old version is priceless. Remember, the publishers will stand to answer for their actions to the highest authority. Selah

Please remove that tool bar!

This is the most expensive app I have ever purchased so I hope you consider my request to remove that moving tool bar. It is in the way of the text on most days and I am not able to make the text any smaller. I am quite capable of going to the top to change text size, sharing and marking a favorite. I do really like when I open the app it goes directly to the current date, so thank you for that.

Trying to share

Jesus Calling is wonderful. But I would love to share each days devotion on Facebook. And it wont do that. The "share" just shares the app so people could buy it. I thought the object was not money but was Godly encouragement on a daily basis to all who would hear... These updates are awful. I wish I still had the version two updates ago. PLEASE GO BACK!!!

Sharing

I really wish we could still copy the words and share them with others who might not want to buy the app right away.

Font choices please!

I am finding the font in the update very unattractive and electronic looking. I have a hard time getting myself to read the devos now; there is nothing inviting in its appearance. Please give us some font choices next time, or return the app to whatever font was previously used.

Thank you for listening!

Congratulations on a successful 2.1 version. It is much improved and I was delighted to see the updates. The changes look great and Im looking forward to seeing whats coming in version 3.0.

Life changing

This is the only purchased app which I use every day. Its perfectly sized; who cant afford to give 3 minutes to the Creator in a day? The UI of the app is weak but the content is worth it and more. (Recent updates brought my 2 star review back to a 5 star one).

Awful update

It is easier to read than before but I find it sad that I cant share the daily message. I was sharing them every day and had a lot of unbelievers comment on how much they appreciated the posts and now when I share it, it only shows the app and how to download it. That just makes me sad.

Update better but...

Thank you for updating the app where it can be copied again but it way to hard to copy. Like many have said I understand you have a business side but this book has been out a very long time. The app is very expensive and not all can afford it. I like to share it with friends from time to time. Please bring back the normal copy and paste feature. It is such a hassle to be able to only do 300 characters at a time. Please fix.

Very Disappointed

Very sad & disappointed. The first new changes ruined the app in so in many ways! Though I like the look and feel of the newest change, the share feature is worthless bc it only sends the link. And only being able to copy 300 characters is useless as well. I agree with so many of the negative reviews... The changes ruined the app completely. I would gladly pay (again) for the old one. Why "fix" something that isnt broken? I used the old one every day for years and shared with my children & family daily. I also ha r the paid version and hand bought it for countless friends, family & acquaintances. I dont use it at all now. Its basically taking up needed space on my phone. I really miss it. Please change it back.

Somewhat improved but still a very poor experience for the reader.

This is my second review. My first review was after the complete overhaul of the original version. The constant drop-down headers and footers when scrolling is annoying and frustrating. I was hopeful after the publisher promised to "address" the barrage of complaints that we would have an improved user experience. That clearly is not the intent of the publisher as witnessed by my fellow raters on a myriad other disappointments with the app. However, out of this daily disappointment with the app came a rich reward. A friend of mine, after hearing of my concerns, gifted me with a hard copy of Charles Stanleys daily devotion "Everyday in His Presence." If you are reading this review and havent yet purchased the flawed version of "Jesus Calling" have faith that other devotionals may deliver a daily message without all the disappointment and frustration. I can assure you that you wont be disappointed with the user experience of a hard copy of a thoughtfully executed book. Eventually the only solution for many of us is to simply delete the "Jesus Calling" app from our devices.

Go backwards to go forward

Let me first say that I begin each day with this app. Before my feet hit the floor, I have a few minutes of quiet time to start my day. The content always seems to be pertinent to my day. That said, like many others, the original version was better. I have the same issues with it... Tool bar covers text, previous font was easier to read, need more font size/scaling options. I have an iPhone 4. I find this latest version takes much longer to load. Not sure if it is because it is going to the verse for the day or what, but it seems the software is getting bloated. Keep up the good work. Make it easier for us to share the word and you will reap the benefits.

Terrible Upgrade

This April 2016 fix to your terrible upgrade last year is much better. One thing needing fixed that I see so far is the hiding header and footers. Please change to all other apps...they appear or disappear when touching the page. Yours auto appears when you go to the bottom of the page and it hides the content! The only way to get rid of the footer is to scroll back up, then you cant read the last line in the scripture verse. Does anyone one there truly use this app before its published? I came form the publishing and manufacturing world and editors would be fired for putting out these many errors in print. Why is it OK in electronic? As always, the content is excellent Sarah! Been reading this daily for 7 years. Thank you! Previous comments on last upgrade: This was a terrible upgrade! You made the font so darn small its hard to read and you do not give the readers an option to enlarge it without enlarging the whole window, then we have to push it back and forth to read it!? Why did you take away the auto open to current day? Now I have to go look up the date because the upgrade highlights the wrong day...it highlights tomorrow not today. That was stupid. And you took away the ability to share Gods Word by not being able to copy it as if you just copyright protected the bible. Terrible...what a terrible backward upgrade. I now have to use a different devotional.

Disappointed with fresh look 2016

I have been using the Jesus Calling app for well over a year - this fresh look 2016 revision still has a few kinks to smooth out - while you can now cut and paste you are limited to 300 characters which is a disappointment. Makes it hard to share :-( I wish the app had a way to highlight certain lines in a different color and save. Some passages standout more and highlighting would help for future reflection. The other feature I miss is the little 1 alert reminder ...while I do receive a written reminder the 1 was much better. Loved saying to people when I saw it - excuse me, I have to take this - Jesus is calling

ORiginal was a 5!

This most recent upgrade, while slightly better than first, is horrible. Sharing "the day" is not friendly or feasible anymore. The content is same but I wish I could go back to original.
